Dr. Veeksha Vagmita likes to weave words into artistic creations that have a visceral quality. She likes her works to throb with feelings, whether it is heart-wrenching sorrow or the sheer delight elicited by sizzling comedy. Her debut book was Papa: Surviving the Loss: A Poem, brought out by Hawakal Publishers. It is a poetic narrative delving into the depths of grief upon losing one’s well-spring of joy and bulwark against the storm. Dr Vagmita is equally adept at writing prose and poetry. She holds a PhD in English (literature) from Ambedkar University Delhi. She has reviewed many books for Scroll.in besides contributing articlespoetry to The Wire, The Sunday Guardian and ThePrint. Words Come Alive is an inventive story that's fun to read and is a treat for language aficionados. It can be likened to Salman Rushdie's Haroun and the Sea of Stories where ideas, places and abstractions take on a character of their own and exert an influence on the story. In Words Come Alive, words and emotions take on personalities, and have a story of their own, a parallel one that runs alongside the main story. They communicate, compete, experience ups and downs, highs and lows, elation and frustration, and are able to influence the human characters in the story. That's where the two stories merge and become one. In the end, Love is able to bring about a happy change in the head and heart of the lead character Divya, the tyrannical boss. She sees a sea change in the way she feels about everything and everyone, particularly, herself, once she lets Love enter her heart. The depressed and dysfunctional employees held down by Horror, Holler and Fear let Curiosity hold sway over them, and soon enough, they get back their spark, and together, they spice up the work atmosphere.
